Eintracht Frankfurt have reached an agreement in principle with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the loan of striker Saša Kalajdžić until the end of the season. The 25-year-old Austrian international is set to undergo a medical in Germany before the deal is officially announced.
Kalajdžić has struggled for playing time at Wolves since joining from Stuttgart in the summer, making just four appearances in all competitions. He will be hoping to get his career back on track at Frankfurt, who are currently ninth in the Bundesliga table.
The Eagles are in need of attacking reinforcements after losing Luka Jović to Fiorentina on loan in January. Kalajdžić’s height and physical presence could be a valuable asset to their team, especially in set-pieces.
Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche said: “We are very happy to have reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the loan of Saša Kalajdžić. He is a player who we have been tracking for a long time and we believe he can make a real impact for us.”
Wolves head coach Bruno Lage added: “Saša needs to play more games and we felt that going to Frankfurt on loan would be the best option for him at this stage of his career. We wish him all the best for the rest of the season.”
It is reported that Frankfurt have the option to buy Kalajdžić at the end of the season for a fee of around €20 million.
This is a good move for both Frankfurt and Kalajdžić. Frankfurt get a much-needed striker, while Kalajdžić gets a chance to play more games and prove himself in the Bundesliga. It will be interesting to see how he does at Frankfurt in the second half of the season.
