Interior Minister Henry Quartey has issued a stern warning to immigration officials at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA). He emphasizes that escorting or receiving friends at the airport is strictly prohibited. Any Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer caught disregarding this directive will face immediate dismissal.
Mr. Quartey expressed concern about unprofessional behavior, where officers in uniform accompany their friends through security checks, immigration, and baggage claim. To enforce compliance, he plans to deploy plain-clothes informants to monitor the situation at KIA.
Additionally, the Interior Minister urged GIS officers to maintain professionalism, especially in anticipation of the upcoming 2024 general elections. Their role in ensuring impartiality and upholding the integrity of free and fair elections is crucial. He emphasized that officers should focus on their duty to Ghana and refrain from engaging in politics.
