Ghanaian rapper Strongman, born Osei Kwaku Vincent, recently opened up about his spiritual beliefs during an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show. The talented artist revealed that while he maintains a strong relationship with his Maker, he does not subscribe to the practice of praying in different tongues.
A Personal Approach to Prayer
Strongman emphasized that he prays regularly, but not in the traditional manner associated with speaking in tongues. Instead, he chooses to communicate with God in a language he understands. Whether he’s driving, eating, or preparing to release a new song, prayer remains an integral part of his life. For instance, when he released his song “Transformer,” he shared that he had fasted and prayed for three days in preparation.
The Absence of Glossolalia
The rapper candidly expressed his perspective on praying in tongues. He stated, “I have never prayed in tongues before. Honestly, I don’t believe in it that much.” His reasoning lies in the idea that praying in a language he doesn’t comprehend would feel strange and disconnected. Strongman prefers straightforward communication, expressing his needs and intentions directly to God. He clarified that he respects others’ beliefs and practices, but this approach simply doesn’t resonate with him personally.
While Strongman may not be a frequent churchgoer, he maintains a genuine faith and acknowledges the importance of prayer. His approach is refreshingly pragmatic: “I just say it how I’m supposed to say it: ‘God, I’m going to Accra. Help me to reach safely,’ and that’s it, I’m done.” His sincerity and authenticity shine through as he shares his unique perspective on spirituality.
