The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has witnessed the untimely demise of eight students during the January to April semester. This alarming spike in fatalities has left the university community in shock and mourning.
The following students, each at different academic levels, have tragically lost their lives:
- Epiphany Asare (Level 400)

- Reeves Baafi (Level 200)
- Ivan Osei Ansah (Level 400)
The cause of these tragic deaths remains a matter of concern and speculation. While it is too early to definitively attribute them to any specific factor, several possibilities warrant investigation:
- Underlying Health Issues: Could pre-existing health conditions have played a role? It is essential to delve into the medical histories of these students to determine if any underlying health issues contributed to their demise.
- Academic Stress and Mental Health: The pressures of university life, especially during the pandemic, can take a toll on students’ mental and physical well-being. Academic stress, anxiety, and depression may exacerbate existing health conditions or lead to unforeseen consequences.
- Campus Environment and Safety Measures: Are there safety protocols in place to prevent accidents, injuries, or other hazards on campus? Ensuring the safety of students within the university premises is paramount.
- Social and Lifestyle Factors: Investigating students’ lifestyles, social circles, and habits may shed light on potential risk factors. Substance abuse, sleep deprivation, and unhealthy coping mechanisms could contribute to health complications.
University authorities, health professionals, and relevant stakeholders must collaborate to unravel the mystery behind these tragic losses. The KNUST community mourns the departed, and their families deserve answers.
