Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Kai Havertz’s overall performance, despite the German’s lack of goals.
Havertz has scored just two goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season, but Arteta has been impressed with his overall contribution to the team.
“I can tell you that I’m really pleased with the way he’s performing,” Arteta said. “Looking at the numbers of what he’s producing in front of goal, those have to be improved… but in many other areas of the pitch, what he gives to the team is really important.”
Arteta went on to explain that Havertz is a versatile player who can play in a number of different positions. He also praised the German’s work ethic and attitude.
“He’s a very intelligent player,” Arteta said. “He can play in different positions, he’s very good in the air, he’s very good with his feet, he’s very good at linking the play, he’s very good at pressing, he’s very good at working hard.
“So I’m really happy with his overall contribution to the team. We just need him to start scoring more goals.”
Havertz has been criticized by some fans and pundits for his lack of goals, but Arteta has defended the German.
“He’s a young player,” Arteta said. “He’s still adapting to the Premier League. He’s still adapting to the way we play.
“He’s had a few injuries, so he hasn’t had a lot of consistency. But I’m confident that the goals will come.”
Arteta’s praise for Havertz is justified. The German has been one of Arsenal’s most impressive players this season. He has been a constant threat from midfield, and he has created numerous chances for his teammates.
Havertz’s lack of goals is a concern, but it is important to remember that he is still a young player. He is also adapting to a new league and a new style of play.
