Doom enthusiasts have a fresh reason to celebrate as Bethesda and id Software have rolled out an update for Doom + Doom II, enhancing the experience with multiplayer mod support. This update, which arrived on Tuesday, addresses a previous limitation where mods and multiplayer were not compatible within the same session.
Initially released in August for PC, PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch, Doom + Doom II now allows for a more communal modding experience. However, there are some requirements to make this work smoothly:
- Mod Activation: The host must activate the desired mods before accessing the multiplayer menu.
- Mod Consistency: Every participant in the match must subscribe to the same mods prior to joining the game.
Currently, only mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are supported for this multiplayer modding feature.
This update comes as a welcome addition for players eager to explore new gameplay elements while waiting for Doom: The Dark Ages, slated for release on May 15. Set in the medieval landscapes of Hell, Doom: The Dark Ages promises innovative elements like mech battles and the ability to ride a cyber dragon, adding to the iconic Doom experience.
This development not only extends the longevity of the classic titles but also maintains the community’s engagement with the Doom series by blending nostalgia with modern gameplay enhancements.
