

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has issued directives for the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Obo Atta Kojo Essoun II, Chief of Takoradi Amanful.
The directives were issued after an emergency Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC) meeting held on Monday, 23rd October, 2023 with the elders of the Takoradi Amanful Stool.
According to the directives, the customary and traditional rituals for the burial and final funeral rites of the late chief would be confined to the area described below;
- From the Asempa Hotel (on Paa Grant Blvd.) to C. P. Kainyah Avenue (adjacent Cape Coast Station)
- through Super Star Hotel to former Mr. Yesterday Shop (adjacent Market Circle Access Bank)
- through the Liberation Road (Zenith Bank, Old Accra Station, All Needs Super Market to the Asempa Hotel).
Stores/shops within the above-stated location would close for business activities at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday 26th and Friday 27th October, 2023 each day. On Saturday, 28th October 2023, stores/shops within the affected area as stated above, would not open for business.
Essential goods and service providers such as pharmaceutical shops, health facilities, banks, eateries and commercial transport operators are not affected by the above directives. The Security Agencies SHALL exclusively be responsible for enforcing any infractions on the directives.
The above directives supersede all earlier information or communications issued from the Takoradi Amanful Palace to the public.
The Assembly expects maximum cooperation from the public and all stakeholders involved in the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Obo Atta Kojo Essoun II, Chief of Takoradi Amanful.
Additional Information
The funeral rites of the late chief are expected to be attended by a large number of people, including dignitaries from all over the country. The STMA has urged residents of Sekondi-Takoradi to cooperate with the security agencies and to comply with the directives issued by the Assembly.
The Assembly has also advised residents to use alternative routes if they need to travel within the affected area. Motorists are advised to park their vehicles in designated areas and to avoid using the Liberation Road during the funeral period.
The STMA has also appealed to residents to keep the affected area clean and to dispose of their waste properly.
