New York – Meta’s Threads, the social media platform that stormed onto the scene with record-breaking user acquisition, has announced new features aimed at enhancing user experience and interaction. In a move catching up with competitors like X and Bluesky, Threads is now rolling out a dedicated ‘Media’ tab on user profiles and the ability to tag people in photos, according to recent announcements.
The ‘Media’ tab, introduced globally, allows users to easily browse through all the photos and videos shared by an individual, addressing what Instagram head Adam Mosseri describes as “a long overdue request from the community.” This feature brings Threads closer to the visual-centric experience familiar to users of Instagram, Meta’s sister platform.

Alongside this, users can now tag friends or personalities in their photo posts, a functionality long available on Instagram. This not only increases user interaction but also enhances the community feel by making it simpler to share moments with others directly within images.
Moreover, Threads has introduced a ‘Markup’ tool, which allows users to add creative annotations when sharing or resharing content. This tool empowers users to highlight, scribble, or draw on shared posts, bringing a new layer of engagement and personal expression to the platform.
These updates come at a time when social media platforms are fiercely competing for user attention through enhanced personalization and media-rich experiences. Posts on X have highlighted the new ‘Media’ tab and tagging features, showing a mixed sentiment where some users appreciate the additional functionalities while others express a desire for even more updates like direct messaging.
Meta’s strategy with Threads appears to be focused on building on its initial success by adding features that drive user engagement while maintaining the platform’s text-based roots. With these new tools, Threads not only aims to retain its current user base but also attract new users looking for a more interactive social media experience.
Threads, which originally launched in 2023, has maintained its momentum, now boasting more than 320 million monthly active users, positioning it as a significant player in the social media landscape.
As these features roll out globally, they mark another step in Threads’ evolution, potentially setting the stage for further innovations in how users connect and share content online.
